Arrested Pneumatization of the Skull Base and its Relationship with Sphenoid Sinus Hypoplasia; a Cross-Sectional Retrospective Study

Arrested pneumatization is a developmental condition that can be an incidental finding on CT and MR imaging may confused with aggressive skull base diseases. This study aimed to detect the prevalence of arrested find out relationship sphenoid sinus aeration. Paranasal CTs performed between January 2020 June were evaluated in retrospective manner. 841 exams included study. The examinations independently by two observers for presence base. sides, localization, dimensions noted. Localization was grouped as basisphenoid, right left pterygoid processes. lesions sclerotic margins, fat, soft tissue densities curvilinear internal calcifications accepted pneumatization. correlation aeration location size lesion evaluated. Sixty-two (7.4%) detected. Sphenoid hypoplasia seen 8 (0.95%) patients significantly more frequent (p=0.0001). There wasn’t any significant difference age gender individuals other individuals. at rate 7.4 percent. anatomical variation considered pseudo-lesion associated hypoplasia.
